The purpose of teaching is to develop in the student’s ability to perform cluster analysis of the
forest sector, skills and inclination to comprehensive and systematic evaluation of its industries and
develop recommendations to improve their competitiveness through cooperation with stakeholders.
The main tasks of the discipline: the study of theoretical bases of cluster analysis; understanding
of the cluster approach as a tool for sustainable development; mastering methods of statistical
analysis and strategic competitive position of individual enterprises and industries of the forestry
sector; evaluation of the importance of creating added value in the deep processing of wood;
mastering the basics of cluster management.

As a result of the course students should know: basics approach and cluster analysis; foundations
cluster management.

Students should be able to: identify and analyze the structure of the forest sector of the state
(region); analyze forest resources of the state (region) considering potential and global trends to
form a cluster; identify priority areas of the forest sector; identify the cluster; analyze existing
business climate of state (region) and to assess its impact on the development of the cluster; analyze
the state of the industry on the basic parameters of forestry, wood processing and manufacturing of
wood products, furniture manufacturing, pulp and paper production of state (region) and determine,
based on this analysis perspective directions of development of the industry; use the research and
statistical regression analysis in the implementation of cluster analysis; identify sub-index of
investment attractiveness of enterprises and forestry sector.

2. The cluster approach as a tool for sustainable development, its theoretical foundations.
3. The development of clusters stages and regularity.
4. Forest sector of Ukraine and the Carpathian region: the structure and characteristics,
resource potential.
5. The main components of the forest cluster.
6. Competitive advantages of the use of non-timber forest products, forest ecosystems and
wood waste.
7. Analysis of inner cluster of cooperation in the forestry sector in the context of competitive
strategy.
8. Cluster Management.
